GrandmasterB’s Top 10 - Worst Movies of 2008

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

Yesterday I posted my Top Ten: Best Movies of 2008, so how do I follow that up? With my Top Ten: Worst Movies of 2008. There were many good movies that came out in 2008, but even more terrible movies were released. Sometimes I sit back and wonder how these movie producers can throw their money into these garbage films…it’s simple amazing to me. There were many crappy movies out there, and having to choose only ten was difficult. Before we get to the list, here are a few dis-honorable mentions:

DIS-HONORABLE MENTIONS
10,000 B.C. - Didn’t we just see this movie? The should have named it Apocolypto, B.C.
Rambo - Seeing Stallone reprise this role just reeks of desperation.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua - Seriously?
You Don’t Mess With The Zohan - Adam Sandler was funny in the late 90s and hasn’t been since.

GrandmasterB’s Top 10 - Best Movies of 2008

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

2008 was certainly a great year for movies! The theme of the year, as with previous years was centered around the super-hero blockbuster. We saw two films from the Marvel Universe, one from DC Comics and another off the wall super hero movie that was not very super. We had Robert Downey Jr. jump back on the scene as Iron Man and a black man! We had Jack Black as a Kung Fu Panda and a heroin junkie. The year also saw one of the best performances by an actor in recent history. So…what was the best movie of 2008? Let’s count ‘em down.

#10. Speed Racer
I know that many people didn’t like this movie and found it too “cartoony”, but I loved it! Well, maybe not loved but I did thoroughly enjoy the movie. The special effects were very cool, and the new technology used on the colors was brilliant. The story had a typical kids movie script, but it was decent enough to get me through the whole movie. Overall, it was good enough to get the number ten spot on my list.

The Britney Circus is Back in Town

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Chris Crocker you have reason to celebrate; your idol Britney Spears is back on the scene. Fresh from her straight jacket her latest album cleverly titled “Circus” launched today on her 27th birthday. One has to wonder if the album title gives a nod to the “media circus” that is Britney’s life? I’m sure all of you Britney lovers are so excited to see her back in action (you included Crocker…you weirdo), but I for one was glad to see her disappear from the limelight for awhile. Now she’s back and on a whirlwind tour to fix her image and be the “pop princess” once again.

She appeared on Good Morning America today and much to the surprise of those that tuned in (NOT ME!), it was rumored that she actually sang and didn’t lip sync. There are some that say she is back on track and doing better than ever…but I’m certain the ring master of this “Circus” will rear her ugly head again. Soon we will all be hearing about her partying it up with Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan again. Having to deal with hearing news of her shaving her head, getting out of limos sans underwear and a number of other unimportant breaking Britney news. I want to hear about news that matters…like how was the month of November for GrandmasterB?

Photoshop Tutorial: Create a Grunge Street Sign

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

The other day while watching ESPN, I noticed one of the advertisements for their NBA broadcasts titled “Destination NBA”. At the tail end of the spot they show an image of street signs with the upcoming games and times, with a cool worn/grunge effect to them (here’s a screenshot). Since it seems that I’ve developed a flair for creating graphics with the same grungy look, I decided to try my hand at recreating the signs and at the same time write a tutorial on how I did it. My overall purpose of this tutorial is to show you how you can create the effect on a street sign, not to duplicate the fine work by the ESPN graphics team.

I have included a resources file at the end of the tutorial for you to download if you like. Included in the resources file are a few of the textures that I use along with a few brush sets used in the tutorial. The font used for the tutorial was purchased by me and I cannot share it with anyone, as it would be against the usage policy. With all of the fine details out of the way…let’s get started.
