Week in Review (aka. Playing Catch Up)

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Las Vegas: Mandalay BayWell, GrandmasterB is back from a long weekend in Sin City and trying to get back into the office and get some blogging done. I skipped doing the week in review last week, because I had so much work to get done and not very much time for running the GMB Show.

This past weekend was great to getaway and have some fun with Mrs. GMB! We stayed at Mandalay Bay and spent a lot of time at the expansive pool. We contemplated renting a cabana for our party, but the thought of dropping $350-1800 for shade just didn’t appeal. The pool was freakin’ awesome! Sandy beach, lazy river, salt water wave pool and cold Bud Light Lime by the bucket. It’s too bad I forgot my camera at the room, because the eye candy was unbelievable…many beautiful babies. The trip was great even though I wasn’t a big winner. We had tons of fun going out and partying at Rum Jungle and drinking my weight in Mojitos. If you are a fan of Mojitos, you’ve gotta try out my boy Cuzzy’s recipe for Cuzjitos; his own creative twist on the popular cocktail.

Here’s the recap for the past week or two…man I’ve been slacking.

August 4: Cooling Off with the Kardashians - My monthly review of the numbers for July. It was the biggest month yet for GrandmasterB. August is looking like it’s going to be a pretty good month too, but not as big as July.

August 5: Q&A with GrandmasterB - August 5 - My new “weekly” feature where readers ask GMB a question about whatever they want and I give my take or answer to their burning inquiries.

August 7: Photorealistic T-Shirt Mockups - New T-Shirt templates from the fellas at Go Media. With these templates you can create t-shirt mockups on the fly for your clients.

August 12: GrandmasterB in ACCESS DIRECTV - GrandmasterB gets an advertisement published in the August issue of Access DIRECTV. If you’re a subscriber, check it out on page 16.

August 14: GrandmasterB’s Top 10 Vegas Movies - In honor of my trip to Vegas, I put together a list of the TOP 10 Vegas Movies (that I’ve seen). There are some classics on there that shouldn’t be missed.

That’s it for this rendition of the Week in Review…stay tuned for more great stuff from GMB. Don’t forget to email me with your questions and get featured on the Q&A with GrandmasterB feature post. If you’re mentioned you’ll get a linkback and 100 EntreCard credits.

GrandmasterB’s Top 10 Vegas Movies

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

In honor of my trip to Sin City, I have compiled what I believe are the TOP 10 Vegas Movies. These movies either take place in Vegas, are related to Vegas or were filmed in/around Las Vegas. Without further ado, I give you my TOP 10 Vegas Movies.

10. Showgirls

The original concept of seeing Jessie Spano (oh wait, this isn’t Saved By the Bell) topless, was a great idea. Then we all realized that it was a crap movie and not really worth to itty bitties we saw. That’s why Showgirls gets my #10 spot.

9. Cool World

The tagline for this movie “Holli Would if She Could…and She Will” leaves a lot to the imagination. Not since Jessica Rabbit have we seen such a sexy and seductive cartoon character. The animation was very good and the mix with live acting was cool for its time.

Cool World

8. Diamonds Are Forever

You can’t go wrong with classic James Bond and Diamonds are Forever delivers on the action with Sean Connery playing the martini drinking secret agent.

Diamonds are Forever

7. Leaving Las Vegas

The movie that won Nicolas Cage the Oscar for Best Actor. The idea of watching a movie where a human being methodically drinks himself to death is very surreal, and his co-star Elisabeth Shue doesn’t have an easy life either. I’ve only managed to see the movie once and that was enough. I couldn’t bare to watch twice…

6. Very Bad Things

There’s only one word that can describe this movie DISTURBING. The movie follows a few friends through a bachelor party in Vegas where things go terribly wrong when Jeremy Piven (Entourage) accidentally murders a hooker in their hotel room. After that it goes downhill quick for the party bunch…excellent, crazy movie.

Very Bad Things

5. Casino

Epic movie with some big time stars. The movie follows through the building of Vegas and how it was built with its ties to the mob. If you have three hours to spare, definitely watch this movie…you won’t be sorry.

Casino

4. Honeymoon in Vegas

I know…two Nicolas Cage movies in one Top 10 is crazy, but this movie was great. Usually, I would frown upon a movie with Elvis or an impersonator, but multiple Flying Elvis’ you have to admit is a bit funny.

Honeymoon in Vegas

3. Ocean’s Eleven

Remake of the classic movie with an all-star cast, and yet another Brad Pitt movie. All of the characters in the movie were great…my favorite was Frank Catton (Bernie Mac). The scene where he’s buying the vans was classic. Excellent movie…bad sequels. I highly recommend skipping out on Ocean’s 12 and 13…don’t rent them.

Oceans Eleven

2. Swingers

“You’re money!” The Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau classic film that follows single guys our partying on a mission to take down “beautiful babies”. I’ve seen this movie so many times, I can’t even guess at the number. This is where Vince Vaughn started it all…if you haven’t seen it, you’re missing out.

Swingers

1. National Lampoon’s Vegas Vacation

The misadventures of Clark W. Griswold are always entertaining and this is no exception. I know I’m not the only person who loves this movie…eh, Mr. Pappagiorgio!

Cooling Off with the Kardashians

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Boy that looks tastyI’ve recently become aware of the fact that the Kardashian ladies are lovers of the summertime favorite…ice cream. There have even been recent videos of Kim eating ice cream in a very naughty manner. If eating ice cream could ever be considered erotic; I firmly believe that the Kardashian sisters have mastered the skill. If you enjoy this picture there are many more out there, and I’ve compiled a few for your viewing pleasure at the end of this post.

As we all know July is notoriously one of the hottest months across America, and this year has been no exception. GrandmasterB spent last week, five miles from Hell (Omaha, Nebraska) and it was freakin’ miserable hot. The temps reached the high 90’s with 100% humidity…I literally felt like I was wearing a layer of sweat (I know that’s disgusting). Anyhow, the only saving grace was cooling off with a tall vanilla cone at Zesto’s Ice Cream Parlor (next to Rosenblatt Stadium). It’s too bad that Miss Kardashian wasn’t there to help me out with my cone…might’ve made the heat more bearable. ;)

Week in Review (7/7 - 7/13)

Monday, July 14th, 2008

It is that time again where we visit the past week of posts and events that have taken place here at GrandmasterB HQ. I am struggling to find the words to explain how successful the blog has been over the past week and for the month of July thus far. I am so excited about the direction of the blog; I feel like a kid in a candy store.

The image to the left summarizes the journey that I have been on with this site over the past four months, and I’m finally realizing that what I’m doing is being noticed. I know that most of you who visit the blog and are regular readers know how passionate I am about the tutorials that I have written thus far. I have put a lot of time and effort into each one to ensure that they are accurate, detailed and helpful to my readers. That hard work and dedication to providing my readers with a valuable content has translated into quality linkbacks and a record month for traffic to the site. In a single week, with all of the linkbacks to the tutorials I managed a whopping 5,101 page views and a grand total of 7,196 page views for the month of July; shattering the previous record of 5,169 set in May.
