In January, I started a new job with the best benefit in the world…free premium cable package, internet and VoIP phone service. In my opinion free cable service is almost if not better than health insurance. Anyhow, back on topic. I had been dying to see the Showtime Original Series Dexter , but never wanted to pay $10/month more for the channel. So when I found out it was part of the package and on OnDemand, I immediately started watching Season One. I know that I am about two seasons behind the curve, but this has got to be one of the best shows on TV.

Now I realize that CBS owns Showtime, and thought it would be a good idea to broadcast the show on Sunday
Nights…in my opinion this was a big mistake. Putting any cable show on regular television is like wiping before you poop…it don’t make sense (thank you Larry the Cable Guy for the quote). I skipped the CBS version and went right for the foul language, blood and gore on Showtime and I’m glad I did. I finished the first season in a few nights. FYI…if you have to get up early, don’t watch at night. You’ll be sucked into watching three episodes and before you know it it’s 1am.

What’s the show about?

The show is based on the Dexter series of books by Jeff Lindsay. Dexter is a blood spatter technician that works for the Miami Police Department by day, and by night he’s a murderous vigilante. If there’s a murderer, drug dealer or sex offender that beats the justice system they are on Dexter’s radar. He researches them and if they are guilty in his eyes he executes them and then dumps them in the ocean. Pretty twisted right? If I could sum up the series in a sentence it would be a mentally disturbed version of CSI.

I’ve become so addicted to the television show, that I needed to find a way to bridge the gap until season three starts later this year. So I went out and purchased the first book in the series "Darkly Dreaming Dexter". I’m not too far into the book yet, but so far it is very well written and just as good as the show if not better.

If any of you have seen the show or read the books, I’d love to hear your opinion on it. Personally, this moved to the top of my favorites list with The Tudors a close second.
