My New Favorite TV Show
Posted on April 14th, 2008 by GrandmasterB under Sports & EntertainmentIn January, I started a new job with the best benefit in the world…free premium cable package, internet and VoIP phone service. In my opinion free cable service is almost if not better than health insurance. Anyhow, back on topic. I had been dying to see the Showtime Original Series Dexter , but never wanted to pay $10/month more for the channel. So when I found out it was part of the package and on OnDemand, I immediately started watching Season One. I know that I am about two seasons behind the curve, but this has got to be one of the best shows on TV.

Now I realize that CBS owns Showtime, and thought it would be a good idea to broadcast the show on Sunday
Nights…in my opinion this was a big mistake. Putting any cable show on regular television is like wiping before you poop…it don’t make sense (thank you Larry the Cable Guy for the quote). I skipped the CBS version and went right for the foul language, blood and gore on Showtime and I’m glad I did. I finished the first season in a few nights. FYI…if you have to get up early, don’t watch at night. You’ll be sucked into watching three episodes and before you know it it’s 1am.
What’s the show about?
The show is based on the Dexter series of books by Jeff Lindsay. Dexter is a blood spatter technician that works for the Miami Police Department by day, and by night he’s a murderous vigilante. If there’s a murderer, drug dealer or sex offender that beats the justice system they are on Dexter’s radar. He researches them and if they are guilty in his eyes he executes them and then dumps them in the ocean. Pretty twisted right? If I could sum up the series in a sentence it would be a mentally disturbed version of CSI.
I’ve become so addicted to the television show, that I needed to find a way to bridge the gap until season three starts later this year. So I went out and purchased the first book in the series "Darkly Dreaming Dexter". I’m not too far into the book yet, but so far it is very well written and just as good as the show if not better.
If any of you have seen the show or read the books, I’d love to hear your opinion on it. Personally, this moved to the top of my favorites list with The Tudors a close second.

love dexter, season 2 was great.
glad you found it.
the tudors is a good one as well.
I kind of love Dexter’s sister even though I did read they are dating in real life now.
Try out a show called Burn Notice…….same Miami feel but no murders.

I’ve only seen season one so far, season two will be starting here in the UK very soon. I loved every episode, due to the series’ clever characterisation and quirky humour.

@ Cuzzy - I finished season two last night. I was up until 1am watching the final three episodes, but I finished it. I didn’t like Debra much in season one, but now she’s starting to get a backbone. I’ll have to look for Burn Notice, what network is it on?
@ PJ - If you liked the first season you are in for a treat in season two. I’m a big fan of Michael C. Hall, and really enjoyed his character on Six Feet Under. He always seems to play a bit of an oddball in his roles.

I was so happy to find your post! Jennifer, the actress plaing Debra, has two movies she worked on during off season, one is called Quarentine, the other is a John Cusak movie… not sure of name yet. Dexter rocks, season 2 was awesome. Can’t wait to see season 3.

USA network I think. I downloaded it but I think season 1 is on DVD.

I’m a big fan of Dexter. I watched Season One on DVD and I can’t wait for Season Two to be released. There’s something strangely compelling about Dexter, a sympathetic serial killer working on the side of justice.
I’ve also heard good things about The Tudors. I’ll have to add that to the must-watch list.

@ Debra - I searched IMDB and they don’t have anything on the second move yet. I’ll have to keep an eye out. Thanks for the comment.
@ Cuzzy - Downloading movies/tv shows is bad…here’s your slap on the wrist.
@haleyhughes - You will absolutely love Season Two…it’s fantastic! Definitely give The Tudors a look if you get a chance. I know that Blockbuster (and other video rental companies) have the first season on DVD. You’ll be hooked for sure. Thanks for the comment.
