The Madden NFL 09 Cover Athlete Is…
Posted on April 25th, 2008 by GrandmasterB under Gaming News
Yesterday, EA Sports announced that for the first time in the franchise’s twenty year history a retired player will be featured on the cover of Madden NFL Football. The latest release of the popular football title will be launched on August 12, 2008 and many an avid Maddenite will be absent for work (start making your excuses up now). When asked about putting Brett Favre on the cover of the 20th Anniversary Edition, Madden NFL Executive Producer Dale Jackson said “Brett Favre is a perfect fit for the Madden NFL 09 cover, as he epitomizes everything the franchise has stood for the past 20 years - longevity, excellence, and a love of football.”
According to EA the newest edition of Madden Football will have 85+ improvements over last years version. They have also gotten rid of the goofy radio announcer and replaced him with Cris Collinsworth and Tom Hammond. As with each new Madden version the graphics have been enhanced out the wazoo and include more realistic weather and grass, exterior stadium views, and sleeker player models. For the first time since EA took the franchise online with XBOX Live the franchise will now have full 32-team online leagues; something fans of the online community have wanted for years. I am a huge fan of the franchise and cannot wait for the 09 version. See you all on the field on August 12, 2008. Pre Order now…so you don’t miss out.

Thank god the friggen radio announcer is gone.

I could not stand that tin-can announcer from the past two Madden releases. I’d rather listen to stinkin’ John Madden’s fat arse than that radio announcer. The addition of online leagues will be sweet though. I can’t wait for that!

Finally, no annoying announcer’s.
I stopped buying those games because of the announcers, but I may want to go pick up a copy of this one now. We’ll see. =]

I wonder will EA put Burnaby Joe on the cover of an NHL game when he retires?

@ Mr. Music - I won’t get on my soapbox about Mike Vick, but the year he was on the cover didn’t he snap his leg in pre-season? Why would you want him back on the cover? Thanks for the comment.
@ Danny - Who is Burnaby Joe?
Thanks for the comment.

Danny…I’ve been an Avalanche fan since they moved from Quebec, and I can honestly say I’ve never heard them call him that. Around these parts (Colorado) they refer to him as Super Joe. Thanks for clearing that up.

Really? He is from Burnaby B.C., I’m Canadian, so maybe thats why I know it, but no problem.

Ok so they pick a retired player so the Madden curse wouldn’t hit a current player? I’m gonna laugh when I read the news of Favre fracturing his kneecap while quail hunting. He’s a tough mother though…gun and crutches in hand. He’s got that quail hunting streak to protect.
