Troubles with Technorati and Feedburner
Posted on March 31st, 2008 by GrandmasterB under Rambling OnIn the past few days I have noticed that both Technorati and Feedburner are not updating properly. For example, I know that I have more than 2 subscribers to my RSS feed. I even subscribed via Google Reader to see if it would update; alas…it did not. I have searched the Feedburner forums high and low for a solution to the problem and found nothing.
In regards to Technorati, for some reason the site hasn’t pinged in 3 days and the last post that it shows is from March 27th. I have tried to ping directly from the website, and even added the ping url (http://rpc.technorati.com/rpc/ping) to Wordpress. Neither seems to be working, and I’m beginning to get a tad frustrated. I have checked the instructions for adding the URL to Wordpress twice and I believe it’s setup correctly under Settings > Writing > Update services I have the following URLs (separated by line breaks):
I’m 99.9% sure everything is accurate, but you never know about that 0.1%. If any of you have any tips or recommendations I am all ears (on either problem I’m having). I thank you in advance for your help.

It appears that the issue with Feedburner, may be a timing thing. I now show 3 readers…it could be that my math is off or that it doesn’t update in real time. Still no idea about Technorati though.

Feedburner doesn’t update in real time, nor is it actually the number of people who subscribe to your blog - it’s the number of people who are “active” subscribers. My subscriber count goes up and down a fair bit and it’s not necessarily because people are unsubscribing. Usually it’s just that someone didn’t open the feed that day. It updates daily.
Technorati can have glitches too - if it isn’t updating, try again the next day. I don’t use WordPress and I don’t have pings built into my blogging software, but I only had to ping Technorati a few times for it to start checking my site automatically.

Thanks for the tip Ben…I’ll give that a look. The Technorati thing is irritating, because I’ve manually pinged them several times with no luck. I finally sent a support email to find out what is going on. Hopefully, I’ll receive an answer back soon.
